Customer states:
A whistling noise can be heard when accelerating or driving at a constant speed (in combustion mode).
- The noise occurs between 1500 and 2200 rpm and at approx. 70% load.
- The noise can be heard irrespective of which transmission position is selected.
Workshop findings:
- The customer concern can be duplicated.
- The noise has a frequency between 2.8 kHz and 3.2 kHz (can be determined using a PICO measurement).
TECHNICAL BACKGROUND
In rare cases, the turbocharger (part number 06N.145.702.D or 06N.145.701.D) can cause an audible whistling noise.
PRODUCTION SOLUTION
Not applicable.
SERVICE
Please refer to the attached document for VAS 611015 (NVH measurement).
- When performing the analysis, ideally, the VAS tool 611015 (PICO NVH tool) should be used to identify the noise with the measuring set-up described below.
- When performing analysis and billing with VAS 611015, please also observe TSB 2070568: Engine/Gearbox: professional noise analysis with PICO-NVH tool.
- Details about the configuration, positions and analysis of the measurement are included in the attached document.
- Please also observe the TSB 2075194/1 on noises from engine compartment in the Q5 FY models.
- Please replace turbocharger.
The noise described is a normal turbocharger operating noise. In rare cases, the noise may be heard in the vehicle interior. The above measures can be used to reduce vehicle interior noise.
This is only a comfort complaint.
Please explain to the customer that no negative effects on wear or vehicle condition are to be expected.
