Customer states:
- The exterior trim on a vehicle with black optic package is discolored. It appears to take on a red or purple hue and, in some cases, may take on a grey or metallic appearance.
TECHNICAL BACKGROUND 1
The ultraviolet radiation resistance in the trim coating was found to be insufficient.
PRODUCTION SOLUTION
Improved trim coating is implemented into production.
SERVICE
- Figures 1 - 3 depict the discoloration.
- Should the symptom described in this TSB present as described, then replace the affected trim. This TSB is not to be applied in cases where any other issue with a black optic trim piece or an issue with a non-black optic trim piece is discovered.
- Please take photos of the customers' concern and upload them into DOC-IT with the repair order. Photos should Have a date stamp and VIN reference.
Be taken in focus and with sufficient light.
