Customer states:
- No customer concerns, it is found during diagnostic work.
Workshop findings:
- When working on the brake calipers (when replacing the brake pads), it is noticed that the zirconium inserts are not firmly attached to the brake piston. The zirconium inserts are loose (can be turned/moved).
TECHNICAL BACKGROUND 1
To prevent the brake pads high temperatures from being transferred to the brake piston and thereby also to the seals and brake fluid, insulators known as zirconium inserts are used on the ceramic brake system. (Figure 1 - item A).
PRODUCTION SOLUTION
Not Applicable.
SERVICE
- Fit zirconium insert back into brake piston.
- It is neither necessary nor justified to replace the brake caliper.
- The brake system's functions are not affected.
