Brake Caliper, Replacing, 1LJ, 1LL, 1ZA And 1ZC: Installing
Install in reverse order of removal and note the following:
Clean bolts before reusing.
Replace damaged bolts.
Always replace self-locking bolts.
Coat the brake pad guides in the brake caliper with Lithium Grease :G 052 150 A2 .
Do not lubricate the seals for brake pistons and rubber components.
-- Install the brake pads.
-- Tighten the bolts -2-.
Vehicle with brake hose with union bolt:
-- Bring the brake hose into the installation position and tighten the union bolt -arrow-.
There is a risk of damaging the brake hose.
- Do not let the brake caliper hang on the brake hose. Do not support the weight with the brake hose.
- Replace the brake hose if damaged.
- Do not bend the brake line.
- A damaged brake line must be replaced.
- The brakes must not be applied when the brake caliper is removed.
- Otherwise, the brake pistons will be damaged.
Vehicle with brake hose without union bolt:
-- Insert the brake hose by hand and insert into the brake caliper.
-- Tighten the brake hose -1-.
-- Check the spring -3- for damage and if required replace.
-- Insert the brake hose into the bracket and connect it to the brake line by tightening the union bolt -2-.
Continuation for All Vehicles:
-- Bring the connector -5- into its installed position and turn in the direction of the -arrow- until the tab -2- engages in the opening -1- on the bracket.
-- Connect the connector -4-.
Make sure that the wire is routed correctly.
Make sure the wire is not blocked, bent, or rubbing against the vehicle.
-- Remove the :VAG1869/2 .
-- Only bleed the brakes on the wheel from which the brake caliper and the brake hose was loosened.
If the brake pedal still feels "soft", completely bleed the brakes.
-- Check brake fluid level, and fill if necessary.
Risk of accident!
- With the vehicle stationary, firmly press the brake pedal several times so that the brake pads in the operating condition properly sit in their respective position.
- Make sure the brakes are working correctly before driving the vehicle for the first time.
