00 11... Information for handling the documents: repair instructions, technical data, Tightening torques (530i 2017-2022, 530i xDrive 2017-2022, 530e PHEV 2018-2022, 530e xDrive PHEV 2018-2022, 540i 2017-2022, 540i xDrive 2017-2022, M550i xDrive 2018-2022)
Preconditions
A prerequisite for carrying out the repair is the completion of training, for e.g. as a mechanic, a regular training or system-specific courses (e.g. hybrid vehicles, electric vehicles, airbag).
General
There are two types of documents:
- Current form
- "PREPAIR"
The "PREPAIR" is a format in which the first selected service information were published from mid 2014. G11/G12 were the first set of vehicles that were completely published in "PREPAIR." Other vehicles followed in such a way that the service information in the previous format were replaced with "PREPAIR." Existing service information will remain valid.
The present repair instructions are used for the correct execution of maintenance and repair for unchanged standard passenger car products of the BMW Group.
The organization of the repair instructions corresponds with the number system of the FRU manuals (job number).
The repair instructions describe installations and removals or replacements of components on the vehicle.
Components that are installed on both vehicle sides (e.g. headlights, outside rearview mirrors or body parts) are described in the repair instructions on the left side. The procedure are mirrored when applied to components on the right vehicle side. Exception: The procedure differs on the left and right. In this case, the steps are also shown for the right side.

Provision for screws/nuts:
Slacken screw/nut: Means turning screw/nut by a few rotations and not removing then completely.
Release screw/nut: Means removing screw/nut completely.
Service informations in the current format:
Service informations until 2012: Generally, the separate operations in the work instructions only explain the removal of components according to the document title. The installation takes place in reverse order. If there are peculiarities to be observed during installation, these must be identified as "installation notes". In addition to these, for complicated processes, the removal and installation will be described separately. Any preliminary work, technical data or tightening torques that may be required are listed as cross-references.
Service informations from 2013: Generally, the separate operations in the repair instructions only explain the removal and subsequent installation of assemblies. Any preliminary work, technical data or tightening torques that may be required are listed as cross-references.
Cross references, technical data, tightening torques
Cross-references to other repair instructions (e.g. required preliminary work, notes, etc.) including "Technical Data" and "Tightening Torque" must be observed.
If there are no cross references to tightening torques in the repair instructions, the extracts from the BMW Group 90003-2 COMPANY STANDARD must be observed.
The specified tightening torques relate to manual tightening with a torque wrench, without using the impact screwdriver or cordless screwdriver.
Cross references to other repair instructions can refer to a complete work scope or only to single, therein contained operations.
Cross references to other operations or job numbers cannot be consulted as an extension of the job guidelines.
PREPAIR:
The repair instructions include all operations required to perform all of the repair:
- Preliminary work: Include all operations to reach the component named in the document title.
- Core activities: Include all operations that are required to remove and install/replace/repair the component named in the document title.
- Follow-up work: Includes all operations required to complete the vehicle.
Cross references, technical data, tightening torques
Cross-references to reference documents must be observed.
Technical data and tightening torques are shown directly in the service information at the applicable place.
Tightening Torques for each screw are specified in the PREPAIR starting from the series G11.
The specified tightening torques relate to manual tightening with a torque wrench, without using the impact screwdriver or cordless screwdriver.
Special tools
If reference is made in the information to the use of special tools, these tools must be used without fail to ensure the correct and safe completion of the repair steps.
Notes on safety
Safety instructions is to be stringently observed.
Images
Images in the repair instructions serve to illustrate adjacent texts. Due to the large number of variants, it is not always possible to show a precise image for every situation. For this reason, there may be differences between the specific situation in the vehicle and the depiction of this situation on the image. These deviations have no impact on the execution of the repair. Also, images of a vehicle type other than the selected type may be displayed.
Left/right-hand drive vehicles
The repair instructions describe repair on left-hand drive vehicles. These are, if possible, mirrored when performed on right hand drive vehicles.
Hybrid cars
Repair can only be done by specially trained "qualified electricians for high-voltage systems on inherently safe vehicles" or "experts for repair work on high-voltage inherently safe vehicles".
In vehicles with high-voltage components, the corresponding safety instructions must be stringently observed before work can begin!
Repair on live high-voltage components is generally prohibited!
Before every step that affects a high-voltage component, the high-voltage system must be de-energized and locked out against unauthorized start-up.
If improperly used, there is the danger of damage and the associated safety hazards.
Hydrogen-powered vehicles
Repair on Hydrogen 7 (E68) is allowed only after consultation with the vehicle-specific registered representative (see Owner's Manual).
