Remove steering shaft lower part from steering column
NOTE:
RISK OF DAMAGE
Damage to steering column switch cluster (SZL).
The steering column switch cluster (SZL) or the coil spring cassette can be damaged by twisting the steering wheel if the lower steering shaft (or the universal joint) is separated from the steering gear or the steering column.

The steering column switch cluster (SZL) or the coil spring cassette can be damaged by twisting the steering wheel if the lower steering shaft (or the universal joint) is separated from the steering gear or the steering column.
- After separating the lower steering shaft (or the universal joint) from the steering gear or from the steering column, secure the steering wheel against twisting.
Preliminary work
- Remove the front left WHEEL .
- Remove the STIFFENING PLATE .
- Remove the right steering assembly COVER .
- Remove the tunnel connecting SUPPORT .
- Remove EXHAUST SYSTEM .
- Remove the acoustic COVER .
- Remove intake SILENCER HOUSING .
- Remove the rear left engine compartment COVER
- Remove the rear right engine compartment COVER .
- Remove left and right WIPER ARM .
- Remove the COWL COVER .
- Remove spring bolt TRAILING LINK .
- Remove the hood REAR SEAL .
- Remove the upper center COWL .
- Remove the LAMBDA OXYGEN SENSOR and the monitoring oxygen sensor for cylinders 1 to 4.
- Remove the LAMBDA OXYGEN SENSOR and the monitoring oxygen sensor for cylinders 5 to 8.
- Remove engine VENTILATION LINE .
- Remove upper HEAT SHIELD
- Release the left and right heat shield SCREW .
- Remove right HEAT SHIELD .
- Remove the left HEAT SHIELD .
- Bending the rear HEAT SHIELD .
- Remove VACUUM PUMP .
- Remove the CATALYTIC CONVERTER for cylinders 5 to 8.
- Remove the HEAT SHIELD
- Remove UNIVERSAL JOINT .
- Remove the pedal mechanism TRIM PANEL .
NOTE:
TECHNICAL INFORMATION
The bottom steering shaft and the steering column are not encoded in relation to each other. Always mark the positioning of the steering shaft in relation to the steering column for removals, installations and replacements. Non-compliance will lead to inclination of the steering wheel.

- Mark the positioning of the bottom steering shaft (1) to the steering column (2).
- Loosen screw (1).
- Detach bottom steering shaft (2) from steering column.
