Removing the evaporator

Prerequisite 

• Coolant has been drained.

Preliminary works 

• Draw off the AIR CONDITIONING .
• Deactivate the 48 v ELECTRICAL SYSTEM .
• Disconnect all battery EARTH LEADS .
• Remove the rear passenger compartment air conditioning CONTROL PANEL (integrated automatic heating/air conditioning system with 4-zone control).
• Remove the rear VENTILATION GRILLE .
• Remove the rear VENTILATION GRILLE (air conditioning with 4-zone control).
• Remove the rear center console TRIM .
• Remove the center armrest STORAGE COMPARTMENT .
• Remove the center ARMREST .
• Remove the front storage compartment TRIM .
• Remove the center console TRIM .
• Remove CUPHOLDER .
• Remove the pedal mechanism TRIM PANEL .
• Remove the right footwell TRIM .
• Remove the CENTER CONSOLE .
• Remove the right instrument panel SIDE PANEL .
• Remove the right instrument panel FINISHER .
• Remove the radio operating unit and the air conditioning CONTROL PANEL .
• Remove HEAD UNIT HIGH (HU-H).
• Remove the speaker trim at the INSTRUMENT PANEL .
• Remove the instrument panel MID-RANGE SPEAKER .
• Remove both inner front door sill COVER STRIPS .
• Remove the left a-pillar footwell side TRIM PANEL .
• Remove the right-hand a-pillar footwell side TRIM PANEL .
• Remove the left and right a-pillar TRIM PANEL .
• Remove the left instrument panel SIDE PANEL .
• Remove the light OPERATING UNIT .
• Remove the left instrument panel FINISHER .
• Remove CENTRAL INFORMATION DISPLAY (CID).
• Remove the left fold-down COMPARTMENT .
• Remove the steering wheel/sports steering wheel AIRBAG UNIT .
• Remove the M sports steering wheel AIRBAG UNIT .
• Remove the STEERING WHEEL .
• Remove steering column upper section SHROUD .
• Remove steering column lower section SHROUD .
• Remove the steering column SWITCH CLUSTER (SZL).
• Remove the INSTRUMENT CLUSTER (KOMBI).
• Remove instrument panel TRIM .
• Disconnect the expansion valve REFRIGERANT LINE .
• Remove the instrument panel SUPPORT .
• Remove the heating and AIR-CONDITIONING UNIT .

• Release the holder (1) and remove the foam material (2).
• Release the clamps (arrows).

• Unlock the latch mechanisms (1) and remove the air distributor (2).

• Loosen screws (1).

• Unlock and disconnect connector (1).
• Remove the wiring harness (2).

• Disconnect the connector (1) and pull out the evaporator temperature sensor (2) from the heating and air-conditioning unit (3).

• Unscrew the screws (1) and remove the bottom cover.

• Loosen the latch mechanisms (1).

• Unlock the latch mechanism (1) and remove the housing (2).

• Remove heat exchanger for heating system (1).

• Loosen screw (1).

• Loosen screw (1).
• Turn the heating and air-conditioning unit around.

• Pull off the water drain hose (1).
• Unscrew the screws (2) and remove the cover of the microfilter housing (3).

• Pull out both microfilters (1).

• Unscrew all screws in the marked area and remove the upper section of the distributor housing (1).
