Removing the positive battery cable from the alternator to the auxiliary terminal for jump starting
WARNING:

- Make sure that there is no charger connected to the jump start terminal in the engine compartment.
- Detach battery ground lead from battery.
- For auxiliary batteries: Detach battery minus cables from all auxiliary batteries.
NOTE:

Damage to battery terminal, the safety battery terminal or the intelligent battery sensor (IBS).
Damaged battery terminals can lead to malfunctions or vehicle electrical system faults.

- Detach battery terminal from battery pole by carefully shifting to and fro. Do not pry off using a tool.

- Refer to REMOVING THE INTEGRATED POWER SUPPLY MODULE (PDM) (540i 2017-2020, 540i xDrive 2017-2020) , or REMOVING THE INTEGRATED POWER SUPPLY MODULE (PDM) (540i 2021-2022, 540i xDrive 2021-2022) .
- Removing control unit bracket. Refer to 12 90 E-BOX .

- Perform all work only on components that have cooled down.
- Unlock lock (1).
- Guide and remove cover (2) in arrow direction.
- Loosen nut (1).
- Loosen clamp (2).
- Thread out positive battery cable (3) and set it aside.
- Release the positive battery cable (1) from the clamp (arrow) and set it aside.
- Release the holder (arrows).
- Thread out positive battery cable (1) and set it aside.
- Loosen nut (1).
- Thread out positive battery cable (2) and set it aside.
- Loosen clamp (1).
- Unlock the lock (arrow) and thread out the positive battery cable (2) and set it aside.
- Remove positive battery cable (1) and remove.
